Textiles and Its Kinds and Types
The clothes you wear, the bed sheets you sleep on, other clothing materials that people use for different functions make up the purpose of the textile industry. How would it be without textile?

Textile is synonymous to fabric and cloth. It is an adaptable material consisting of a set of connections of natural or artificial fibers known as yarn or thread. The yarn when pressed together or are woven, knitted, knotted and crocheted the end result is textile.

The production of textiles for different uses has been with us for a millennium. It is commonly used for clothing and bags and baskets. In the household, they are generally used in upholstered furniture, curtains and drapes, towels, as covering for beds, tables as well as in arts and crafts. Outside the home textile is utilized for flag making, tents, and nets and for cleaning devices.

But the kind of textiles use for each purpose also varies. There are different kinds of textiles as there are purposes and functions. Textiles used for industrial purposes are called technical textiles. The uses of this kind of textiles include automotive applications, medical textiles and bullet proof vests. But application should conform to strict requirements for better performance.

For fashion the practioners rely on textile designs to lay down their fashion collection. From the beautifully ornate to the simplest of texture and pattern fashion textiles are so adaptable that fashion designers can create a masterpiece with it.

Textiles are made from different sources from animal hide to silkworm, from animal furs and mohair and to plants. Grass, hemp, rush and sisal from plants are all used to make rope. Plant textiles include the versatile coconut fiber use for doormats, brushes mattresses and sacking. The bamboo and the straw have its share as textiles. They are used for hats. Synthetic textiles are used for the most part in the manufacturing of clothing. They go by the names of polyester, spandex, nylon, acrylic, Lurex and a whole lot more.

The textile industry is now discovering and developing new fibers, new applications, and the new procedures for producing them. Research and studies and experimentations are being done to come up with innovative fiber and textile solutions. With the innovations it makes possible new products based on these advanced fibrous materials.

The industry is not lagging behind in the making, analysis, sale and end uses of fibres and fabrics. It is also inching forward to stimulate demand for a country’s natural fibres.

Some manufacturers are building up high tech machineries for weaving, dyeing, finishing of various fabrics. Some countries are using local indigenous resources to achieve global competitiveness. It makes things different form others. Each country for sure has its own materials to be proud of. Capitalizing on that is some kind of novelty which the world would find refreshing.

On the whole the textile industry is geared towards globalization of prices. And the whole industry is now controlled by the general rules and disciplines represented in the multilateral trading system.
